Take 2 former NZSO players, a virtuoso accordionist and a bass player of renown, and you have the Kugels!
The ensemble has been together for 15 years now, and has completed nationwide tours for Arts on Tour NZ, Chamber Music New Zealand, and performed as guest artists at several NZ festivals.
With passion and sensitivity, these musicians play traditional Klezmer music and original works by eminent NZ composer Ross Harris, and band members Nick Tipping and Robin Perks. Klezmer is the folk music of migrants from the Middle East and Eastern and Central Europe.
The genre speaks eloquently for the plight of oppressed minorities everywhere. The music is wild, passionate and haunting and makes you want to dance.
The Kugels are on fire!
