THE INADEQUATES
From their humble beginnings busking in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall, The Inadequates have grown rapidly within the Australian Folk Music scene
Forming in 2017 brothers Jackson and Marcus Church decided to create a band with High School friend Lawson Mackriell under the temporary name “The Inadequates.” Fast forward and that project has now taken them all over Australia becoming favourites at a variety of different festivals, and they still haven’t found a better name!
Following a year touring their debut record around Australia and 3 Australian Folk Music Award nominations, The Inadequates are bringing their show to New Zealand for the first time ever. The boys have been pushing the limits of their acoustic instruments and are thrilled to showcase the material they have been developing for the last few years. Expect tight 3-part harmonies, highly arranged and technically demanding instrumental work, paired with wrenching songwriting and the slamming energy that has earned them comparisons to more rock bands than acoustic ones.
APOLLINE
Winners of Youth Artist of the Year at the 2024 Australian Folk Music Awards, Apolline is a lively group of young folkies fuelled by the love of all things folk and copious cups of tea. Equipped with alluring voices, formidable tunes, and an extensive collection of colourful socks, the group carves out a genre-bending celtic sound that is cinematic, a tad mischievous and unapologetically fun.
With Luisa Hickey (fiddle/vocals/mandolin) cello Tess Hickey (cello/Vocals) and Laura Heaney (double bass/vocals) at their core, Apolline creates highly intricate arrangements that range from energetic dance sets to hauntingly intimate songs, all of which draw in audiences from all walks of musical life.
Their upcoming second album, Needs More Dragons (Jan 2027) captures the last 3 years of their biggest influence; performing at festivals around Australia and overseas, soaking up as much music as they can and absorbing it into their ever evolving sound.
