Imagine rolling the dice six thousand times – One relationship – Infinite possibilities
Bit of a Blip Theatre proudly presents Constellations, the Olivier Award-winning play by Nick Payne, a poignant and playful exploration of love, loss, and the infinite possibilities of human connection.
This spellbinding love story follows an unlikely romance between Roland, a beekeeper, and Marianne, a string theorist. After a chance encounter at a barbeque, their relationship unfolds in a dazzling theatrical multiverse. They meet, they part, they fall in love, they falter – or perhaps they don’t. Each choice leads to another possibility, another universe, another outcome.
Told through a series of parallel moments, Constellations explores how love can triumph or unravel on the phrasing of a single sentence, reminding us that every decision reshapes the paths we take.
Fresh from a critically acclaimed season in Wellington at The Hutt Repertory Theatre in 2024, this production reunites the original cast and crew, with both Lottie Butcher and Ben Rowan receiving nominations for Excellence in Acting from the Wellington District Theatre Federation.
The production was hailed as “an evening of theatrical excellence” by David Cox, President of the WDTF, who praised it as:
“Stunning… truly first-rate acting with an excellent set, simple yet effective costumes, and magnificent sound and lighting design. It allowed the audience to laugh, empathise, feel raw emotion and leave the theatre thoroughly satisfied.”
Ewen Coleman,The New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Theatre, called it “a superb piece of theatre not to be missed,” writing:
“Butcher and Rowan nail not only their characters but the underlying emotions and turmoil. They understand one another totally and react accordingly, bouncing off each other with confidence giving assured and commanding performances that are compelling and heartfelt and totally engaging.”
With its unique blend of wit, humour, and heart, Constellations will leave audiences pondering the infinite possibilities of love, life, and the universe
