MASON BROTHERS

27th April 2019

This is a real New Plymouth celebration event.

Kiwi music icon Wayne Mason is best known for writing the song “Nature” while he was part of top NZ 60’s  pop band Fourmyula, but has also been at the forefront of NZ music in 70’s rock band Rockinghorse and later in country band The Warratahs.

He is still a full-on stage performer, plays keyboards and guitar for Too Many Chiefs and Laura Collins Backporch Blues Band, still writes great songs, and has recorded three critically acclaimed solo albums.

This year it will be seventy years since Wayne was born in New Plymouth, so to take a wander through fifty years or more of songwriting he is joined by brother Paul (Bowers-)Mason, string bass player, who has recently moved here.  This is the first time they have played together, so Paul is stoked to finally get to play in his brother’s band.

Their sound is the intimate acoustic feel of guitar and bass, complemented by the sibling advantage of genetically harmonised vocals.  And there will be the trademark blues and boogie keyboard, some offbeat Mason humour,  plus some rarely told stories of how the songs came to see the light of day.
