Mireya I. Ramos
Riding out the global pandemic in lovely New Plymouth NZ, Mireya I. Ramos is a violinist and vocalist of Dominican and Mexican descent, raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, born in California and usually residing in NYC.
She embodies a wide variety of musical influences, from mariachi and salsa to merengue and hip-hop and she always creates a unique sound and refreshing musical blend.
While classically trained in the Suzuki method, and having had orchestral experience at University, her passion is strongest for folklore and other alternative genres. A natural at improvisation, possessing unique violin and vocal textures, she is one of the top requested Latin artists in New York City.
Currently, while not busy touring the world, including WOMAD NZ 2020 right here in New Plymouth with her Latin Grammy Winning group Flor De Toloache, Mireya is recording her first solo album with Mexican Institute of Sound's Camilo Lara and Gabi Moreno among other special guests.
Mauricio Olivera is a Chilean-born, New Plymouth-based Psychiatrist, writer and amateur musician. He has performed in small stages in Chile, Madrid, the Basque Country and New Plymouth and his musical repertoire includes classical, blues, rock, bossa-nova and Latin American folk.
